At Allegiance STEAM Academy (ASA), we are committed to fostering a rigorous academic environment that encourages every student to achieve their fullest potential. To ensure student success and maintain high standards of excellence, we use a variety of assessment measures that provide a comprehensive view of individual progress, instructional efficacy, and program effectiveness.

Our Approach to Assessment

ASA’s assessment framework is designed to:

  • Measure Student Growth and Achievement: Track academic progress over time, ensuring students are meeting or exceeding grade-level standards.
  • Guide Instruction: Inform teachers' strategies to address the individual learning needs of students.
  • Evaluate Program Effectiveness: Assess the overall success of our curriculum and instructional methods to ensure alignment with our STEAM-based mission.

Key Assessment Measures

  1. State Mandated Assessments
    ASA participates in all required state testing programs, ensuring that our students' performance aligns with California's educational standards. These include:

    • CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress): Students in grades 3–8 are assessed annually in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics to evaluate their mastery of state standards.
    • California Science Test (CAST): Administered to students in grades 5 and 8 to measure their understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
    • English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC): Administered to English learners to determine proficiency levels and monitor progress.

  2. Internal Benchmark Assessments
    To monitor progress throughout the academic year, ASA implements internal benchmark assessments such as:

    • NWEA MAP Testing: A personalized, adaptive tool used to assess and guide learning in Reading and Math.
    • Formative and Summative Assessments: Curriculum embedded assessments to evaluate student understanding and mastery of specific concepts.

  3. STEAM-Based Performance Assessments
    As a STEAM-focused institution, we prioritize authentic assessments that reflect our project-based learning model. These include:

    • Engineering Design Challenges: Assessments tied to STEAM projects, requiring students to apply critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
    • Project Presentations and Portfolios: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding through creative and comprehensive displays of their work.

  4. Social-Emotional and Behavioral Assessments
    Recognizing the importance of the whole child, ASA integrates assessments such as:

    • Character Education Reflections: Evaluations tied to our character development initiatives.
    • Behavioral Progress Tracking: Tools to monitor and support positive behavioral growth.

  5. Program-Specific Measures

    • Intervention Tracking: Ongoing assessment of students in intervention programs to ensure targeted support leads to measurable progress.
    • World Language Proficiency: Assessments to evaluate student advancement in ASA’s foreign language programs, including Mandarin and Spanish.
